“The past is not only that which happened but also that which could have happened but did not.”
[Tess Gallagher]
Memories can take on their own life as we age, as we are wiser, as we know now how the story has continued to unfold. Everything has a meaning, yet not always clear. Everything has a purpose, yet perhaps not what we envision. What did not happen, was not meant to happen.
“A blessing of these years is the transformation of the self to be, at long last, the self I have been becoming all my life,” Joan Chittister writes in The Gift of Years. “.. an oasis of serenity…”.
May we all be blessed with peace of heart: accepting, forgiving, and releasing all that no longer serves us.
