In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt
[Margaret Atwood]

How the earth peaks our senses in spring! The smell of soil newly warmed, releasing aromatic perfumes to entice us. It is the earth’s siren song.
Robert Frost in the poem Putting in the Seed, describes so well the communal process:
“… Slave to a springtime passion for the earth.
How Love burns through the Putting in the Seed
On through the watching for that early birth
When, just as the soil tarnishes the weed,
The sturdy seedling with arched body comes
Shouldering its way and shedding the earth crumbs.”

We are so blessed to have such richness at our feet.
May we all be blessed today to give thanks to the earth for all its bountiful gifts in our lives.
